In Schilpario, in Val di Scalve, the festival La Transumanza per Michela Schilparo has celebrated for years the bond with shepherding and mountain traditions. The event, named after a local young woman, coincides with the descent of animals from the alpine pastures and enlivens the town for an entire weekend.
Friday, September 18, the opening is dedicated to pastoral culture with a meeting on shepherds' rock carvings and a noisy parade of cowbells. Saturday, September 19, features a guided walk, mowing competitions, wooden games for all ages, and an evening concert by the tribute band of Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, while food stalls offer typical dishes.
Sunday, September 20, the highlight day includes markets, demonstrations of ancient crafts such as shearing and milking, folk songs, and the evocative transhumance parade with garlanded cows and goats crossing the historic center.
